Q - What does the statement "We
run our machines slower" really mean?
A - Just what it says! Natural
tobacco that is not "Cased" or chemically treated, it is very erratic
and very difficult to work with. In order to produce a quality cigarette
consistently, we must run our machines more slowly with constant attention
with at least two inspectors at the machine level to adjust for the effects
of the vicissitudes of the weather on this untreated tobacco. If tobacco
were to be stabilized with a chemical it would no longer be an all natural
cigarette.
Q - How are light cigarettes made?
A - There are numerous ways to
make light cigarettes, certainly the tobacco balance is one. Another common
method is to freeze dry the tobacco to puff it up, therefore, creating
a lot of empty air space and less tobacco in the cigarette. This method
creates not only lighter weight cigarette, but also cigarettes that burn
up very quickly even when you are not puffing on them. We chose a more
sophisticated method. There are different varieties of paper and filters
that allow the mixing of air through laser generated holes. This method
helps dilute the smoke and air ratio.
Q - Where do Nat Sherman Cigarettes
rate on tar and nicotine levels?
A - Nat Sherman Cigarettes are
made of all natural tobacco. Levels may vary from day to day during a
production of our cigarettes. There is no scientific way to accurately
measure the levels in every cigarette. As an all natural cigarette we
generally rate on the high side.
Q - How did Nat Sherman Cigarettes
Start?
A - A good customer of our cigar
business was annoyed that he could not smoke cigars on the plane during
his regular trips from Dallas to New York and asked Nat if he could make
a cigarette with Cuban tobacco… So we did, and called them Havana Ovals
#149. This was the start of our cigarette business.
Q - Why do I have to pay more for
your cigarettes?
A - We believe that it is about
quality not quantity. We take great pride and care in manufacturing the
finest all natural luxury cigarettes made. We only use the best components
during all stages of the manufacturing process. The taste is created by
carefully blending only the finest tobacco without additives. We also
go through a rigorous inspection process to consistently ensure a quality
cigarette.
Q - I notice that your cigarettes
burn slower than other cigarettes, do you use a retardant?
A - All our cigarette products
are 100% natural with no additives whatsoever, because we use no casings
or flavorings it is more difficult to hold a cigarette together and requires
more tobacco within each cigarette itself, that, along with its purity
is what creates the slow burn. The slow burning sometimes will cause the
cigarette to go out by itself.
Q - Are our light cigarettes different
then the full flavor varieties within the same brand?
A - In most cases we use the same
blend and change the filters. This creates a difference in pressure drop,
which is how easy or difficult it is for you to draw on the cigarette,
and it alters the smoke to air ratio. In some cases we are able to use
slightly different tobaccos without sacrificing the flavor. Although,
without the use of chemicals, we are restricted as to the flexibility
we have of producing a light version of an existing blend.
